This song was inspired by a conversation I had with Suzanne Semmes who is an interfaith pastor at our local hospital. We were attending a Threshold Choir gathering and discussing how difficult it is to go down deep into our grief and that many people aren't willing to go there but if we dare to go there, a wellspring of joy is there and this is where the healing can start to take place.
lyrics
You got to go down deep, down deep
to that bottom of the well, bottom of the well
You got to go down deep, down deep
to that bottom, to that bottom of the well
You got to go down deep, down deep, down deep,
you know you’re gonna find sweet relief,
at the bottom of the well, at the bottom of the well
Well, my grief’s too deep and I can’t get no relief
I said my grief’s too deep and I can’t get no
I can’t get no relief,
I said my grief’s it’s too deep and I can’t get no relief
at the bottom of the well, at the bottom of the well
When you go down deep, down deep to that bottom of the well,
bottom of the well
When you go down deep, down deep, to that bottom, to that
bottom of the well
There’s a spring of joy to greet you, it’s gonna lift you up,
even higher than before, so much higher than before
It’s gonna lift you up, it’s gonna lift you up, it’s gonna lift you up even higher,
so much higher than before
Cause when you go down deep, down deep, down deep,
you know you’re gonna find sweet relief, at the bottom of the well,
at the bottom of the well
There’s a spring of joy to greet you, it’s gonna lift you up,
it’s gonna lift you up even higher than before, so much higher than before
Yes, that spring of joy to greet you, it’s gonna lift you up even higher than before, so much higher than before
That wellspring of joy, that wellspring of joy, wellspring of joy
